Grey PVC-backed premium grade coloured coir matting is hardwearing and long-lasting. Its strong brushing action effectively removes dirt from shoes, protecting your floors. This coloured coir matting is perfect for use in a mat well and can be easily trimmed with a sharp Stanley Knife. For deeper mat wells, place a piece of plywood of the appropriate thickness underneath the mat. Ideally, the top of the bristles should be flush with the floor to minimise the risk of tripping.

Coloured Coir Matting is best used indoors, where the colour can be chosen to complement your décor to give a very stylish finish. We do not recommend using coloured PVC-backed coir outdoors where it may get wet, and the colour may run. For outdoor use, a better option is to go for a woven backed coir mat or one of our synthetic outdoor mats.

Please note all coloured PVC backed coir mats are produced from natural un-dyed coir (coconut fibres), these fibres are brown in colour. The coir is then dyed with the desired colour. As there are variations in the coir this does mean that the dye can take in varying amounts to the fibres. This is just the nature of the natural fibres, and something we are unable to control.

We send our sample orders via First Class Royal Mail. However, sometimes they can take a couple of days to reach you.

For all samples that are 23mm and less they are sent as Large Letter Size, so they should easily fit through your letter box.
For multiple samples or samples that are thicker than 23mm these are sent as Small Parcel Size so there may be times where it is not posted through your letterbox, and they will knock.

Are coir mats any good?

Our Coir Mats are highly effective and durable. Compared to synthetic materials, coir offers superior dirt-scraping capabilities, making it excellent for removing excess dirt and moisture. Unlike rubber or plastic mats, coir is eco-friendly and biodegradable, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Its traditional appearance also adds a natural charm to any entrance, making it both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Are there different qualities of coir matting?

Yes, coir matting comes in various qualities. Standard colour coir mats, like the grey coir matting, are premium grade. Premium grade coir is highly effective for everyday use, offering good durability and scraping abilities. Our highest quality coir matting is the Heavy Duty PVC backed coir mat, which is DDA compliant and suitable for high traffic areas like commercial properties. Our other grade of coir mat is Budget grade, this is the least densely packed coir available. We recommend Budget Coir for very low traffic areas or temporary use. Heavy Duty and Budget Coir are available in the natural golden brown colour only.

How thick should a coir mat be?

The thickness of a coir mat depends on its intended location. When buying your coir mat you should consider things like door clearance, step heights and mat well/recess depth. The thickness of a coir mat will not effect its scraping ability. We offer a range of thicknesses from 14-50mm across our products. Grey Coir Matting is available in 17mm or 23mm thickness.
