FAQs

We've summarised some of the most frequently asked questions regarding double doormats, which we hope will answer any further queries.

What size should a double door mat be?

A double doormat should ideally cover around 80% of your door-width, and even go to full patio door width if you can find one. At Coir Mats, our door mats range anywhere from 60cm x 35cm to 180cm x 60cm, although we also offer a made-to-measure option for those with a more specific measurement in mind.

Should a doormat go inside or outside?

It's recommended to have both indoor and outdoor doormats to trap dirt the most effectively. Our coir mats are meant primarily for indoor use, as their fibres are 100% natural, whereas our rubber doormats are built to tolerate extreme weather conditions, making them better for outdoor use.

Why do people layer door mats?

Layering your door mats can be a fun way to add some extra style to your entrance. Many people like to place a rug under their door mat to add a mix of colours and/or patterns to their doorway.

Should you have two door mats?

In a perfect world, most homes should have at least two door mats at each door – with one, ideally coir, to scrape off the dirt from shoes when visitors walk through the door, and an absorbent mat to soak up the excess moisture afterwards.

Should a doormat be wider than a door?

Yes, your product should be at least as wide as the door space to absorb the dirt and debris the most effectively. Essentially you want the dirt to remain on the mat and not the surrounding floor so the bigger the better in most cases.
